We've not looked great but in 1966 we were lucky in the final. Football is a much more global game now so I'd say this would be just as big an achievement. Home advantage is clearly our best weapon but with VAR, we can't rely on any dodgy Russian linemen!

Worry for England: tonight’s match is on ITV. At World Cups or Euros from Euro 1996 onwards, England have recorded 17 wins in matches exclusively live on BBC; only six on ITV (including penalty shoot-outs) – and ITV has shown one game more. Both broadcasters will screen the final.

England’s task in tonight’s semi-final is to beat Denmark at home in a match refereed by Danny Makkelie. Of England’s past two home defeats, one was against Denmark and the other was refereed by Makkelie (against Spain). And England’s latest defeat anywhere? Away to Belgium, in a game refereed by Makkelie.

What a night!

And Gary Neville’s comment at the end was the absolute icing on the cake.

Can we not have an Italian flag over Peterborough. As I suspect most will be supporting Italy.

They done well but I'd personally say it was the lack of technical ability which cost us. Italy could control the ball better collectively, sadly bravery & athleticism can't guarantee victory. Despite giving 100%, I'd say the combo of Rice & Phillips just wasn't quite good enough to win. Great effort but we won't get a better chance (at home with an easy draw).
