Steamy, how would if have been a much easier night if (the unfit and overweight) JC-H was playing? Genuine question, not trolling. Szmodics covered more ground in 5 minutes than JC-H has done all season.
Sammie often does that, runs around looking menacing but his threat to opposition defences is fairly limited. JCH has proved to be a scorer of goals, albeit at a lower level, and we have definitely missed him, as he gives us another option. Playing the ball out from the back is our only option at the moment; Any hoofing the ball forward is totally counterproductive as the ball is immediately returned, often with extra topping too!
In addition, the return of Beevers has shown just how valuable he is to this team.
No criticism of Szmodics, but he is no centre forward.
No one has ever claimed he is. The poor lad is simply taking that position while JCH serves his suspension.

I do think the Posh fans obsession with "covering a lot of ground" and "sliding tackles showing commitment" is part of the "small club, small mentality" past we are trying to jettison....on a day we honored Freddie Hill, it should be obvious that not every player needs to cover every blade of grass to be effective

Some do, some don't. All players have different qualities. Sammie Szmodics does just that, but losing this quality would be a real negative for the team.

Szmodics does offer a lot of running for sure
