Darragh Interview

Post by Steamy Nin »

Always love an interview with the main man and he is spot on when he says we shouldn't be intimidated by established clubs in the Championship, we need to remember that Peterborough is way bigger than towns like Middlesbrough, Huddersfield, Preston & Blackburn, which aren't that much bigger than Stamford. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKl3WP9DxTI

Middlesbrough has a population of 138,400. The town is part of Teesside, which has a population of over 376,000. The city's population makes it the largest town in North East England.

Well beyond the city (Peterborough is a city), Peterborough has the largest catchment area of any club in the country. From the centre circle of London Rd, a radius of 36 miles can be drawn before finding another football league club. Also there are other places that can be included in my list of smaller places in the Championship, ie Blackpool, Luton Barnsley, Bournemouth and probably more. Darragh is right when he says "we must not be intimidated by these clubs", we must impose ourselves and establish ourselves as a Championship side. Last time we went up we were caught like a rabbit in the headlights, this must not happen this time round. The first match is against one of these small town clubs, let's get things off on the right foot and be assertive from the start.

Totally agree with this. Hopefully DMac, Fergie and Barry will have learnt since 2013!

Darragh says the new stadium will cost £60 Million. Maybe he thinks that if Ben White can command a £50 Million fee then a better player will cost more.

I get that.

But why New Stadium?

Is the club going to pay for something that the directors will own?

Probably - but who cares? A new stadium or a crumbling old LR?
