One more in?

Post by OBM » 26 Aug 2018, 17:53

Steve Evans said he was hoping to get 1 more in this week.

Centre Back or cover Defensive Midfielder for Woodyard?

If it's 1 more in what do we need?

It'll be a striker or an attacking midfielder apparently.

Byrne and Aneke are still up for grabs I'd have thought if we're going with the latter.

I believe Byrne turned us down last January for logistic reasons...Good player though.

Loan with potential for a permanent according to Darragh.

As the new cover at right back - Darren Lyon, has said his preferred position is in a more defensive midfield role, I would assume he is also cover for Woodyard. Plus with Steve Evans praise of the partnership building between Taff and Bennett, I would assume that we are now only looking for his original target-man striker!

Agree with this, as we also have Josh Yorwerth waiting in the wings if Taff or Bennett get suspended, injured or suffer loss of form. Yorwerth was superb in the pre-season friendlies.

With the reported outlay on Toney I would be surprised to see a 'target man' coming in.

With the movement and running that Toney has done so far I can't see him being classed as a target man and already his sub appearances have seen him working with both Cummings and Godden as well as Dembele. I see Toney as fitting into the current style of play with either of the other two strikers, so I assume we are looking for more of a "Plan B" type player when team's defenses play deep and try to stifle our pace and movement game playing on the counter.

I really don't think we could afford his wages but he would be a great signing

I doubt Stoke would need to sell him with their parachute payments, but if they did there would surely be other Championship clubs who could offer him a better deal.

The closer we are getting to the loan transfer deadline, the more I am thinking we might be going with the existing squad - at least until January. Maybe not a bad thing as I would rather go with a successful current squad than add someone who has yet to be persuaded or who might disrupt the current team or indeed upset squad players on the fringe of the first eleven who are eager to show what they can do.

If there's a chance to improve the squad I'm all for it.

We can't stand still.
