Did you know?

Post by tonyp » 13 Nov 2015, 03:04

This is a thread for unusual or little known facts.
Everybody is welcome to educate and/or entertain the rest of us.
For example -
Did you know?
The term "raise a toast" originated in ancient Rome where they'd drink their wine with pieces of toasted bread in it.

I'm sure I've seen that statement in a recent thread elsewhere in these august pages.

Yes but that was on a thread from which I've been banned so I decided to give the answer on here.
Everybody who answered was correct, by the way.
That question was not original. It was first posed on "Who wants to be a millionaire?".Instead of Posh football player they said "Australian Prime Minister". The contestant answered correctly!

By the way, it's november not august. :)

Did you know that one hundred thousand mobile phones are dropped down the lavatory in Britain every year, and 50,000 get run over.

A couple of years ago I dropped mine down the toilet, I'm surprised that how advanced they are the manufacturers haven't taught them to swim.
