Only the weather can save us here....

3-0
unfortunately, :stupid:
I've never seen such pessimism.
The thing that can save England is (a) some poor bowling by Australia and/or some good batting by England or...
(b) some poor batting by Australia and/or some good bowling by England.
It seems to me that the players are nearly as pessimistic as you two.
I think you will find it reality

The reality is that England have two of the best bowlers in the World (Anderson[especially] and Broad) and two of the best batsmen in the World (Cook and Root).
If they're not good enough they shouldn't be in the team. In the case of Broad and Cook I think they may well soon be out. But while they are there they should get on with helping England to save this game not pray for rain.
I'm sure Anderson will. Not so sure about the others.

I haven't seen as much pessimism about the posh or the cricket since I started supporting Posh 65 years ago.

Rain stopped play while they're having tea.
England 71 for 3
Cook's gone Root's gone.
Just because Super and Stuie expected it doesn't stop it meaning they are pessimists.

Stumps score Day 4
Rain interrupted day

England 403 and 132 for 4

Australia 662 for 9 declared
England trail by 127 runs with 6 wickets remaining

Should be a good day tomorrow (rain permitting).

Anybody who has been praying for rain looks like getting their prayers answered favourably.
England's hopes of securing a draw may have received an unexpected boost by a delay at the start of the fifth day. Heavy overnight rain appears to have caused water to leak under the covers affecting an area of the pitch roughly on a good length at the Lillee and Marsh end of the ground.
There is no evidence of any hole in the covers or that they blew off overnight. Nor is there any suggestion that someone may have tampered with them.
Even the pessimistic Poms would rather have seen England save the game without the help of rain.
The talk coming from Perth is that the game will start at lunch.
Australia to win before tea?
