The Ashes

Post by tonyp » 30 Oct 2017, 07:45

The England squad and their hangers on have arrived in Australia.
ABC News.
Will Ben Stokes be playing?
England captain Joe Root has said he still doesn't know if vice-captain Ben Stokes will feature in this summer's Ashes series.
"We don't really know what's going on with that, we have to sort of let the police get on with that," he said.
Root said critics only provided a greater motivation for the side to prove them wrong, and firmly rejected the 'underdog' tag.

"We've got three of England's best all-time players ... with Cooky [Alastair Cook], Jimmy [Anderson] and Broady [Stuart Broad], and then we've got some guys who have really stood up over the last couple of years, and I think we are a completely different side to last time we came here," he said.
First Test starts a the Brisbane Gabba on November 23rd.

He will be there and so he should.
The two main witnesses have spoken to the police (and the press).
It is being suggested he can go out and warm up with the Lions who are out that way at the same time as the major warm up matches take place.

He will of course strengthen the squad on and off the pitch, the pathetic needling from the press and the crims who represent one of OUR colonies won't bother him. He's married now so will fear what she'd say if he reacted badly!

A lot of the press comments from over there thus far are about the issues the aussies have.

It'll be hard but we'll win the series or at least retain them.

Just remind me Tony. Is it just cricket and RL you support your adopted country in against England or any sport?

I don't support Australia in Synchronised swimming.
Although I could be persuaded to change my mind.

Anderson named England vice-captain according to Cricinfo.
I would have thought they might have gone for Broad.
James Anderson has been named as England's Test vice-captain. He will act as Joe Root's deputy in Australia for as long as Ben Stokes remains unavailable.
Anderson, 35, is the leader of the bowling attack and, although he does not have much experience of captaincy, one of the squad's most senior players. With Stokes currently out of contention while police continue to investigate his part in a fight outside a Bristol nightclub, Anderson has been preferred as vice-captain to other candidates such as Alastair Cook, Root's predecessor in charge of the Test side, and Stuart Broad.
