I think I may have thrown my money away, but I’ve had a punt on Esther McVey at just over 200/1 on Betfair Exchange, the other night on Pointless in the final game name an MP beginning with M P or S, she would have won me the money.

Boris Johnson will get the job.
probably the worst, least effective foreign secretary we have ever had, certainly since the war.

did he achieve anything when he was mayor of London which substantially benefitted the majority of Londoners?

too much of what he has done has been based on vanity projects (water cannons, millennium bridge, ) and so little on genuine achievements derived from his strategy

yes he is a crowd pleaser, but also so stupidly does not think through the consequences of his words and actions

Bringing in a 15mph zone to increase pollution would be a great shout

I ask innocently,

is it the case that driving at low speeds does increase pollution? I have never considered that, but I can see that perhaps it might

I know less about chemistry than I do about politics, I would have thought however that to go at 15 mph you must drive in a lower gear and spend more revs to get the required velocity to move forward at that ridiculous speed, it's doubtful whether in most cars you could manage to do it in second gear, revving the car in first would surely use more fuel than in a higher ratio gear. At night I fail to understand why traffic lights need to be operational because whilst cars are stationary at traffic lights again they are using fuel that could have seen them homeward bound

The speed limit in the Brisbane city and some suburbs here has just been reduced to 40 km per hour which is about 25 mph.
Even that is pretty difficult to keep to.
The idea, of course, is to reduce accidents especially those causing loss of life or even just serious injuries.
I doubt whether the powers that be care whether the move affects pollution or people's pockets for the costs.
15mph (lower than 25kph!) must be designed to discourage people from entering the zone. I think it would discourage me.

But you don't have to wait long when there's not much traffic. My car automatically turns the engine off when I stop. That annoys me. But maybe they think it saves fuel.

Totally with you there bristle. It shouldn't be too onerous to shut these lights down after a set time, particularly on some of the sweeping roundabouts that cities seem to favour!

:stupid:
Let's hope the new PM whoever it is (it will be Boris by the way) can fix this important problem.

As an mp he has done nothing

The Euro elections solved one thing, the majority of people who had an opinion still want to leave, those who voted along old party lines because their parents voted that way and didn't have an opinion on Europe made the decision closer than it would have been had it been a strightforward in or out decision.
