A pleasant surprise

Post by bristleposh » 15 Oct 2018, 21:59

After all the pre match talk from Southgate I thought we were in for a drubbing, however what we saw was a first half far better than I expected, second half after the Spaniards got one goal back I thought we needed to not concede again, fortunately when we did it was after 96.5 minutes of 7 minutes added time 2-3 a terrific result. Great to see Winks back in an England shirt.

Apparently
Spain were unbeaten in competitive home games since 2003.

They had never conceded three goals in a competitive home game.

It was 840 days since they were last beaten in 90 minutes.

And then they met Gareth Southgate’s England.

The archetypal game of two halves ; England counterpunching to great effect in the first half then retreating and hanging on in the second. Dodgy goalie though , lucky not to concede a penalty after overdoing the fancy stuff....Chapman for England?
