Millwall to be relocated in Kent?

Postby daib0 » 06 Jan 2017, 15:06

quite big news here ...

The Guardian

Millwall admit council scheme could force club to leave Lewisham

• Land around the Den may be purchased compulsorily and sold to developers
• ‘Any and every option would have to be considered’ if Renewal plan proceeds

Millwall Football Club have admitted for the first time that they may be forced to leave their south London home and relocate to Kent should the seizure of their land go ahead. Lewisham council’s plan to compulsorily purchase areas around the Den and sell them on to a mysterious offshore developer with connections to the current Labour administration has already drawn both disbelief and mass protest.

The problem with the surrounding land around Millwall FC has been in debate for a considerable number of years. Looks like it is coming to a head.

I used to go to the Old Den when we lived in Sarf Landen ; amazing place where the likes of Harry Cripps and Barry Kitchener used to compete as to how high they could boot the opposition players into the air. There is plenty of land to the west of the Medway to relocate to without infringing on Gillinghams catchment area.

I went to the old Den when Goalkeeper Alex Stepney, later of Man.Utd played for them, would be early 1960's I guess. Stood with colours on in the crowd of Dockers on a Terrace. No problems, just a good discussion about football before the game. We lost 3-2.

I have issues with Millwall, get the banter (Danny Baker, oh dear)

I will make a wager with anyone, Millwall will not move out of London (Fact IMO)
