Posh v Rochdale

Post by tonyp » 10 Sep 2019, 21:34

I see on theposhdotcom
https://www.theposh.com/news/2019/sept ... -for-posh/
that Posh are playing another game on Saturday next at 3pm.
 Not much mention of football on this message board lately.
Both teams were 3-0 winners in their last league fixtures, Posh comfortably overcoming Sunderland while Dale were excellent in their display at Roots Hall against Southend United.
I'm expecting Rochdale to find Posh a more formidable opponent the Southend.
Posh are favourites with the Aussie bookies at $1.67, Rochdale $4.30 and $3.75 for a draw.
:comeon: Another 3-0 will be good.

I think that we underestimate Rochdale at our peril. They are only one point behind us in the table and have been playing some sparkling football under Brian Barry-Murphy. He is a young, hungry newcomer to the managerial scene and reminds me very much of a young Darren Ferguson.
Witness the goals that they have scored this year, particularly the 17 passes, all on the deck from this clip at 3mins 7 secs. You won't find a better team goal anywhere in the football league! The following two goals weren't very shabby either! Superb. I hope that Ferguson has shown the squad these clips. I'm sure he has.

You're right, Rochdale are certainly a force to be reckoned with and they are going to be right in there at the end of the season. This is not like any Rochdale side I have seen before.

Rochdale reserves lost tonight to Man City schoolboys, although to be fair a couple of first teamers did play most of the game

So, 11 minutes may be a bit difficult to do but let's give it a go 😄.
Either way, 11th minute let's give Tommy a rendition of his song.
Keep your eye on the screen and give it all you've got girls and boys. Get teaching any kids coming to the game the song too (although I fully expect they are already educated).

Just the one change from the Sunderland game ... Joe Ward in for George Boyd

I'd love to see the stats, according to Radio Scum first half Rochdale had 73% possession it's goals that count and we dicked them

Rochdale played all the football in the first half but hardly had a shot at goal. Posh much better in second half but the 6-0 was flattering.

It's no good Rochdale playing all the football but hardly having a shot at goal. I am a great admirer of the way that they play, keeping possession of the ball, playing along the ground in little triangles but Henderson and co. were well and truly snuffed out today.
The result was not at all flattering imo, as for the last 25 minutes of the second half Posh just coasted along playing possession football along the back four with Louis Reed in attendance and letting Rochdale come on to them. I'm sure that if they had continued to press hard they would have scored a load more. More importantly they kept another clean sheet. This defence is beginning to look like the real deal! I just hope I haven't put the kibosh on the result against the Trannies on Tuesday!

Was it balls.

They had as much possession as we allowed. They had no penetration whatsoever.

Me too.
I love waking up and seeing a scoreline of Posh 6 Opposition 0. I don't care if it is flattering. My first thought was that they must have had a couple of players sent off early in the game.
Ashman did warn us to underestimate Rochdale at our peril.
