Poshies v Bristol Rovers

Post by Chompy » 29 Jul 2018, 09:46

11-10 Posh, 9-4 Brizzle, 5-2 Draw.

We usually beat Bristol Rovers these days and they're in a similar position to us in so much as they've just lost their main striker to a Championship side (Ellis Harrison) and arrive off the back of a home defeat in their previous-weekend friendly.

Theirs came to L2 Exeter though. Not Bolton. And 0-4 to boot.

All the lolforum experts have decided they can name the team for this, how we'll get on in this game and over the season. Truth is of course we're a completely unknown quantity in a competitive game and anyone making predictions is an utter guesser.

Let the fun begin...

Even the guess the attendance mob are stabbing in the dark here.

4, 5, 6k?...Who knows what to expect.

We may have 2-3 new players in the building...We may not.

Maddison may have been sold...He may not.

I'm just gonna take my place in the LRE and see what happens.

Assume Maddison won't play if still here. Guessing he's not match fit despite being the standout player still

Whatever happens it's going to be a fun ride. I can't go on Saturday - holiday and festivals calling - pretenda.....

Before anyone does it...

The 'g' word will be used everywhere in previews over the next week about any squad that's had a big turnaround of players.

'Gel' I mean. It's nonsense. Utter garbage.

As in 'It depends how well the new players gel', 'it depends on whether Evans can get them all to gel as a unit'.

Like Wolves in the Championship last season?

Nope, good players are good players whatever. Name me one team in recent times that have started a season slowly after a large turnaround of players before they 'gelled' and came flying through? Nope, thought not.

Anyone using it essentially has no opinions of their own.

There's maybe something to be said for Sheffield Utd in 2016 when Chris Wilder took over from Nigel Adkins? Other than that I'm struggling to think of any other teams who have gelled. I'm sure we can name teams that have gone the other way however!

Interesting comments Chompy, very interesting actually. Does that mean that if they don’t start winning straight away then you’ll say Evans has got it wrong in his approach this summer? And if so, how long will it take you to turn on him & want him out like with McCann?

He has NO excuses now if you believe what you’ve posted above.

Why not take part yourself. Also in the predict the score league.
Both start this week.
All in the interests off friendly support for Posh.

Manchester United have a team full of great players. I don't see much gelling going on there.

I’m surprised the moderators haven’t warned you about swear words on the site.

I hate them with a passion almost as much as F1, but if you are basing it on there pre season friendlies in USA I think the majority of their first choice team were not playing. Still nice to see them lose though.

Evans pre match preview above (if the link works).

Worth a listen as apparantely he didn’t want to sell Forrester (despite putting him on the transfer list), is a Posh Fan (which I never knew) says ‘his’ new team will be inconsistent and we need to accept that and also had the now obligatory pop at the previous team and players.

Interestingly he doesn’t confirm whether or not the owners have said promotion is his primary and only objective this season which is a bit odd as I thought that was the whole reason to throw the baby out with the bath water.

I still dislike him massively and don’t rate him as a manager at all but come 3pm on Saturday he has my full support and backing
