Gainsborough and Potton

Post by bristleposh » 26 Jul 2018, 07:49

A 1-0 win away to a former league side currently languishing in the 7th tier, goal by Cooper, and a 2-0 away triumph against 9th tier opposition goals by Godden and Yorwerth doesn’t inspire one with optimism. However the fact that the two games were played by entirely different teams, suggest that we have a fair bit of strength in depth, and that the young boys who played kept their end up well against adult opposition.
If anyone attended some comments would be more than welcome.

It's difficult to assess the current squad against inferior opposition.. the pitch at potton was dreadful and the game was all about fitness levels. I haven't been that impressed with either of our two new strikers but hopefully they will find the net eventually. We are desperate for a big man up front. Who that will be is anyone's guess?

In isolation, none of the pre-season games are particularly relevant. Even the upcoming game against Bolton at the weekend will hardly be a pointer as to how we will perform this coming season. It's just interesting to watch how the new players develop to Evans's philosophy, plus we have been starved for a few weeks of football from our club and are now ready to get back on the bandwagon!

I have over the years watched them many times, they are one of our old foes from the Midland League days, good memories. :clap2:

the results may be irrelevant , but posh have fallen down in the past against "inferior" opposition

if mr evans can get the mindset right, and make losses into draws and draws into wins then we could be well on our way

a total of 3 goals against gainsborough and potton ought to be a source of some concern though

We scored hatfuls against trees in early games but they're dried up, despite still dominating possession.

We haven't had a team capable of dominating possession in forever, so that bodes well, but I'm with SP in thinking we need another two strikers.

Something like Doyle and Kayden would be fine.

With Marriott. Edwards. Lloyd.. and probably Maddison to follow...all gone we've lost the bulk of our goalscorers.

We certainly need 2 striker's...and an attacking midfielder because our current midfield doesn't exactly scream goals at you.

A crucial 14 days ahead for us....

Marriott, Edwards, Morais, Lloyd, Maddison. Any team would miss the goalscoring abilities of these. It's a huge punt to hope that the recognised strikers here now, Cummins and Godden would be good enough to replicate last years goals. Dembele, Cooper and Ward may chip in with a few but will it be enough?

All of those players...bar Morias who isn't good enough anyway...wanted or want to leave... There's nothing we can do about that.

Godden and Cummings are not "Huge Punts"..They have goalscoring form at similar levels.

We just need other options
