Why the negativity towards Stevens? He has scored 1 in 2 appearances at Kettering and whilst that is clearly in a poor league he can't do any more than score. From looking at his Twitter he has worked hard in the off season to get fit, is only 20 and I think has earned his shot at the first team this season. He has impressed me more than some of our more heralded signings in the friendlies to date. If he had signed from Liverpool for £1.5m everyone would be raving about his pre season performances! Give the lad a chance!

Ricky Miller scored 40 goals for Dover but was out of his depth for us last season.

No manager at Posh has yet to fancy Stevens....Hence him being farmed out on loan...I doubt Evans will be any different.

Ricky Miller is 29 and reportedly had an Alcohol problem. I hope he manages to sort himself out at Port Vale and I think if he gets himself together will be a success in L2.

Stevens is totally different and deserves a chance to prove himself in the league having developed for a season at Kettering. Keeping him with the first team squad is a no brainer - he won't cost anything in wages, will work hard and could develop into a useful option up top.

He may deserve a chance to prove himself as a professional.

Whether or not that's with us remains to be seen.

The only reason for the negativity (from some) is because he wasn’t signed by Evans, never mind that he was only a kid when he signed and wasn’t ready for the first team so went on loan to get experience, just like Evans wants to do with Freestone.

He deserves a chance for his pre season but then again given the opposition we’ve played everyone should look against non league sides really.

Not sure of your point, if there is one.

I know Gormely was guff from very early on, while the clueless masses were still hailing him as one of our own and some sort of saviour.

Matty S has been banging them in this summer but I'd doubt he's the answer either.

Some on here will be all over him though.
As you said, we hadn't looked good in pre season for a long while.

But I have a clear memory of Miler scoring goals in pre season and a few on this board getting quite excited about him. No indication can be made from pre season friendlies other than getting players match fit - a necessary evil, as Barry Fry once said.

I doubt he'd have represented England at 3 levels and Manchester City would want first refusal when we sell him if he couldn't play the game.

His problem at Oxford was attitude....He won't get away with that under Evans.

He's clearly talented....Whether he can handle the physicality of league one football would be my biggest concern.

Mine too. He looked a touch like Leo in patches. If anyone can sort his application to the game, whether it is for good or bad, I am sure that Steve Evans is the one to do it.

Anyone stand out Ashman in the Portugal game from the new players?

It would be hard to judge any of the players on 45 (max 60 mins) of action in 30oC Portuguese heat but for me (and watching locals) Alex Woodyard was the standout player and I predict future skipper!

Midfielder Callum Cooke has joined Peterborough United on a free transfer.
The 21-year-old, former England Youth international, is a product of the club’s Academy, and has been with Boro for over a decade, after joining at Under-9 level.

Cooke has had loan spells at Crewe and Blackpool in recent seasons – he made 34 appearances for the Tangerines last season – and also featured for our Under-23s.

Callum’s last taste of action in a Boro kit came during the pre-season friendly at Rochdale last midweek.
