is the problem when interactive seating plans are not available, i am sure that they where last season but seem to have vanished this season, or it is just the away games that i have looked at?

spot on, for away games they just give the tickets out in order they receive them, for most games this is no problem, as you just sit where you want, at capacity games, this becomes an issue
