We have an anthem now. Seven Nation Army. It's the only track played at HT these days and we often go back to the start after the skip challenge or what not.

It's got a bit like Ghost Town on Father Ted.

I used to love the post horn gallop. Anybody know why we stopped using it? Couldn't be anything to do with copyright surely. It is so old.
I did read somewhere that Leicester City use it. But that doesn't mean they own it, surely.

The origins of Post Horn Gallop seem a bit tenuous, as a Posh song there is no real link between the Petreborough area and Foxhunting. Leicester on the other hand are nicknamed The Foxes and have a great (if that be the correct word) tradition of Foxhunting in the area. For all that I did enjoy in the 50s and 60s hearing it as it meant the action was about to commence.

In the Family stand it often doesn't really matter what signature music is played as the PA is so awful from there that at my age I can't hear a thing anyway

The Fitzwilliam Hunt is based just the other side of the first Peterborough town ship, Bretton, at Milton Hall. When I was kid living in Oundle we used to pedal our way around the Countryside following another local hunt, the name of which I have forgotten. Personally the Post Horn Gallop just grates on me and shows no improvement over some of the other 'toons' we have heard being played, if fact coming through the terrible London Road speakers it is an embarrassment! (Tin helmet at the ready! )

Back in the day the whole build up to kick off used to be very exciting and the crowd used to build up for 45 minutes before the start, anticipating seeing the team RUN out of the tunnel for the first time, accompanied by the Post Horn Gallop which used to make the hairs on your neck stand on end. These days we have the spectacle of all and sundry on the pitch warming up accompanied by various bits of equipment before kick off which takes away a lot of the excitement and anticipation and when the players eventually appear it just doesn't have that same thrill about it.

off topic slightly, but as a Kid we always used to go to the back of the town hall on Boxing day and watch the hunt leave (different times, so although not know condoning fox hunting, in fact against it, we have a lovely fox that lives near us) the spectacle was brilliant
