This season

Post by stuie » 10 Sep 2017, 11:45

yes we lost yesterday to a better team, and it's not going to be easy, however after the Bradford game, we are still in a play off position and have 13 points from 6 games, IMO 2 points a game will hopefully give us auto promotion, and defo a play off position, yes defending is an issue, but with my positive head on a great start to the season. The game against MK Dons will be a tipping point either way :comeon:

As opposed to 12 points which I think was what you were getting at.

Actually the 13 points are from 6 games, Stuie.
MK Dons will certainly be a test as will Walsall, Wigan and Oxford. Oldham don't appear to be so much of a challenge.
By the end of September we will have played 10 games and to be on 20 points (2 a game as you are asking for) we need to get 7 from those four matches. Surely that's possible.

We'll all have taken third after 6 games... Good reminder Stuie... on another thread prior to Bradford we talked about how positive our start was. It is still cracking... Hopefully a blip only

It's a bit early to start talking about tipping point games...and league positions are irrelevant at this stage of the season.

If I was offered a play off spot now though...I'd grab it with both hands.

I agree. Lots and lots can happen between now and the end of the season - as also a lot can happen between now and end of October, and November etc. etc. We have made a very good start and that is all that can be said up to this point. A lot of other teams would love to be in our position.

At least 20 to be precise. And that's only the League 1 teams.

Pessimist! I'd refuse it. I want automatic promotion.
Play-offs are nearly as bad as penalty shoot outs.

I would always take a points tally of 2 or more per game at any stage of the season!
Would almost certainly guarantee automatic promotion over a season.
Let's be realistic - this is the best start we have made to a season for years!

Of course!!
In the olde days 2 points per game meant you won every game!!
I do think Stuie is being a bit optimistic.
(Much better than Super's pessimism though).

When I say tipping point, I am not saying the season is over, etc etc, however it gives a first indication of what might happen, it would be great to win, and see us thus maintain a 2 points a game tally. This has to be Mccanns target

Tony I think you will find in all the lower leagues, that if you achieve over 90 points in a season you achieve auto promotion

I didn't dispute that Stuie.
I just think it's optimistic.
I want it to happen just as much as you do.

yep, I still hope we do this and get auto's,

I do like what I have seen this season so far, attitude, nice football and winning in the league
I did not see the Northampton game, or Doncaster game, so my experience so far is based on the other 4 league games

Its been a decent start for sure and am sure, no, I hope it will continue for many months to come, but there is little chance if we defend like we did Saturday, which after watching the highlights was even worse than I thought in the day.
Loathe to say this, as surely it can't be true, but we either looked tired or perhaps were even a bit complacent. Hope the boss gave them a right roasting, and tomorrow if not a tipping point will at least show the levels of our resilience. Any news on Marriott injury, hopefully was just a tweak
